As a parent, you want to teach your children about the Bible. How do you get started? What age should they be when we start teaching them the Bible? How often should we teach them? How can we make it fun and engaging for our kids? These are all great questions! In this post I will answer these questions and more.

Whilst growing up, one thing my parent exposed my siblings and I too were gospel music and sermons, we attended bible study classes, memorized scriptures, participated in bible quizzes and a lot more.

Few years down the line, I can say that these constant practice has been of great help to me. I remember how much fun I used to have studying the bible, its history and other related topics.

This is why it’s important for parents to teach their children about God so that they can know Him personally through reading His word which will also help them develop a relationship with him from an early age.

Having said all that, let’s proceed to why we should teach kids the bible

An habit is not an habit until it becomes something you do repeatedly and consistently.I guess that studying the bible is an habit everyone including Kids, teenagers, and adult should adopt.

The following reasons is why we should teach the bible to kids

1. The death of Christ is for everyone

Christ death which lead to the restoration of mankind to the original intent of creation is not meant for a particular sect of people, it is for all men, whether young, or old. For your kids to get exposed to the importance of the death and ressurection of Christ, they must be students of the bible. This is one of the reason why we need to teach kids the bible.

2. It is an instruction from God

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou you expect your kids to follow the bible if they do not know in it?

It is God’s desire that Children be rooted in him. At this time, it is quite easy, because they are still innocent and have not really gone far in the knowledge of Good and evil. Fill them with the word of God while they are still young. This is the best gift you can gift your kids.

3. It builds their relationship with him

God wants a personal relationship with everyone, so teaching your kids the bible is a great way to build that relationship with him. They will get closer and have a good understanding of God’s love for them. Need articles on how to build your relationship with God, click here

Scripture says in Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

You should leave a pattern and lifestyle that your kids should follow after. Teaching kids the bible is one pattern you should start early with your kids.

There are many ways that you can teach children about God and his word. Here is a list of some ideas:

1. Start with Prayer

This is the most important step when it comes to teaching Children the bible. The reason why we pray is so that both the teacher and the hearer can have an indepth understanding of the scriptures being read. Ask for attentive ears from your kids . 2. Remove any distraction

Kids can be easily distracted, whether it’s a TV playing in the background or someone asking them to do something else or a toy flying around. Be sure to take away things that will cause distraction during the course of teaching them the Bible

3. Start from bible stories

Children pay more attention to stories than they would a mere explanation. So while you think about fun ways to teach the bible to kids, I will advise that you start out with bible stories.

Talk to them about King David, Father Abraham, Adam and Eve, Sampson, King Solomon, Abraham, and a lot more.

Be sure to ignite the atmosphere so that they won’t end up getting bored.

4. Act scriptures

Another way to teach kids the bible is to act scriptures, let your children be involved in the acting. This way they will be more engaged and open to learning.

If your kids are still young, draw pictures of the story you are trying to teach them about so that they can relate better with it. If not, enlist their help in acting out stories from the bible or create a play for them where each child will take on an important role

5. Scripture memorization

Memorizing scripture is another way to teach kids the bible. It might be difficult at first but with time they will get use to it and eventually enjoy doing so. You can start with very short Bible verses and then move on to the longer ones.

You can also encourage your kids to write verses or stories from the bible in their notebooks and keep them as a reminder of all they have learned throughout the day. This will help reinforce biblical teachings .

6. Bible Journaling

This method brings out the creative part of your kids. It allows them to express themselves and focus on the creative process. You can provide your kids with paper, crayons or colored pencils and ask them to create their own story from the bible using drawings and illustrations .

The end result will be a visual reminder of all they have learned throughout the week. This is an especially good tool for learning the bible.

7. Make the bible study session interactive

Leave room for questions. It is okay to not have all the answers. Encourage your kids to ask questions about what they are learning so that you can help them gain a deeper understanding of biblical concepts .

It’s okay if there are some things you don’t know or understand, this is why it is important to study the scripture personally before teaching your children.

Just do whatever it takes for your kids to feel safe and comfortable asking whatever question pops into their mind. Each kids has his/her own uniqueness

8. Join a bible believing Church

What I mean by bible believing Church is a place where sound biblical teachings are taught. How you teach the bible to children is extremely important so it’s really helpful if they can surround themselves with people who will give them sound biblical teaching.

Whatever they are groomed with is what will stay with them for a very long time. Instead of feeding them with the falsehood that they will have to deal with in the future, it is better to provide them with truth.

We hope this post on how to teach the bible to kids has been of great help to you.
